The Neum October 2023

Floriani singing at the Catholic Answers Conference

Greetings, friends of Floriani!

Our year has really picked up over the past month, and we have been busy traveling all over Phoenix and beyond. In particular, we have been traveling to several schools around the Valley, doing presentations and workshops with the students. Thanks again to the Catholic Community Foundation for funding this tour. So far, we have brought sacred music to Bourgade High School, St. Thomas the Apostle, and St. John Paul II High School. As I’ve mentioned before, working with young people is a huge part of our apostolate, and it is essential that we reach the youth if we are to shift the course of the culture.

Late September, we lead a day long sacred music retreat for the children’s schola at St. Anne’s in San Diego, teaching them some beautiful music, including Pawel Bebenek’s O Salutaris Hostia. The following day, we lead a similar retreat for the young adults, who we prepared to sing for the Sunday High Mass. The turnout was great, with around 50 showing up to sing, 26 of whom were complete beginners. Enjoy a clip of them singing below!

GREGORIAN CHANT ACADEMY

ONLINE CONFERENCE 2023

Last week, our Gregorian Chant Academy held its second annual online chant conference. The itinerary included talks from Dr. William Mahrt, Dr. Jennifer Donelson-Nowicka, and Msgr. Alberto Turco, all renowned scholars of Gregorian chant. Floriani provided a concert to finish of the week, which can be viewed below. Thank you to Chris Jasper for your work in putting this wonderful event together!

CALL TO RENEW SACRED MUSIC FROM KANSAS BISHOP

"A Kansas bishop recently issued a pastoral letter emphasizing the importance of sacred music in the liturgy and encouraging the use of Gregorian chant, polyphony, and the organ at Holy Mass rather than secular music. On September 13, Bishop Carl Kemme of the Diocese of Wichita released a pastoral letter titled 'On Sacred Music: Let us Sing with the Lord,' in which he emphasized a desire 'to restore sacred music in the liturgy' and the importance of music in enhancing the Mass."
